Our life is beautiful but sometimes hard days do come. we should be thankful & humble for the day whats in our favor and stay tall when it is not.

If the past has been hard it doesn’t mean that our future is not bright. we have to stay hopeful as God has always given us what is best for us and if we stay thankful its going to multiply.

I am starting today’s post by the quote of Jim Rohn. “Dont wish it was easier , wish you were better”.

Usually when we start a new job, new activity, new business, new venture or a new relationship it is very hard. As they say every master was once a beginner. we feel hard in each and every step. there are two ways to cope with it either you forget everything and run or you face everything and be strong.

Usually the people leave their part and run as this is the easy part. Its always easy to leave something. The hard part is to persist with difficult situations and stand tall, come out victorious from challenges.Each difficult things make you strong. you become a strong person.

5 steps to achieve your goal

Everything starts with ambition, you think of something, you dream of something and then it starts.

  1. The first step of everything is to dream about it.

  2. Then you write it down as a goal.

  3. Third step is write it in a visible place so it is in front of your eyes.

  4. Fourth step is to  make a plan to achieve it.

  5. Fifth step is follow the plan and gradually monitor it so your dream becomes reality.

    These five steps , just follow and get your dreams turn into reality.

Success in Baby Steps

Success is achieved through Hard work and discipline. If you want to succeed you need to work hard. you will rarely find a successful person with an easy past. so by simply saying you need to do step step to achieve success. always set a goal and make baby steps to achieve the goal.

Guard your innerself

What we think affects everything around us. It affects our moods, our attitude and our work. So keep yourself in company of motivated people don’t let any negative thought enter inside.
Jim Ron once said, it doesn’t matter from where you get the negative thought , it will affect your inner side. An analogy he gave was that if you have coffee and one of your friend puts sugar in it, you will be fine. Same way if your worst enemy puts sugar you will b fine. But if your friend puts poison in it, you will be dead and if your enemy puts poison you will be dead.  So guard your coffee. This is an analogy for protecting your thoughts.

WHEN AND HOW TO APPLY FOR A POSITION

The information described here is the net result of many years of experience during which thousands of men and women were helped to market their services effectively. It can, therefore, be relied upon as sound and practical.

MEDIA THROUGH WHICH SERVICES MAY BE MARKETED
Experience has proved that the following media offer the most direct and effective methods of bringing the buyer and seller of personal services together.

1. EMPLOYMENT BUREAUS.
Care must be taken to select only reputable bureaus, the management of which can show adequate records of achievement of satisfactory results. There are comparatively few such bureaus.

2. ADVERTISING in newspapers
Advertise in newspaper, trade journals, magazines, and radio. Classified advertising may usually be relied upon to produce satisfactory results in the case of those who apply for clerical or ordinary salaried positions. Display advertising is more desirable in the case of those who seek executive connections, the copy to appear in the section of the paper which is most apt to come to the attention of the class of employer being sought. The copy should be prepared by an expert, who understands how to inject sufficient selling qualities to produce replies.

3. PERSONAL LETTERS OF APPLICATION
Personal letters of application directed to particular firms or individuals most apt to need such services as are being offered. Letters should be neatly typed, always, and signed by hand. With the letter, should be sent a complete “brief” or outline of the applicant’s qualifications. Both the letter of application and the brief of experience or qualifications should be prepared by an expert. (See instructions as to information to be supplied).

4. APPLICATION THROUGH PERSONAL ACQUAINTANCES.
When possible, the applicant should endeavor to approach prospective employers through some mutual acquaintance. This method of approach is particularly advantageous in the case of those who seek executive connections and do not wish to appear to be “peddling” themselves.

5. APPLICATION IN PERSON.
In some instances, it may be more effective if the applicant offers personally, his services to prospective employers, in which event a complete written statement of qualifications for the position should be presented, for the reason that prospective employers often wish to discuss with associates, one’s record.

INFORMATION TO BE SUPPLIED IN A WRITTEN “BRIEF”

This brief should be prepared as carefully as a lawyer would prepare the brief of a case to be tried in court. Unless the applicant is experienced in the preparation of such briefs, an expert should be consulted, and his services enlisted for this purpose. Successful merchants employ men and women who understand the art and the psychology of advertising to present the merits of their merchandise. One who has personal services for sale should do the same. The following information should appear in the brief:

1. EDUCATION.
State briefly, but definitely, what schooling you have had, and in what subjects you specialized in school, giving the reasons for that specialization.

2. EXPERIENCE.
If you have had experience in connection with positions similar to the one you seek, describe it fully, state names and addresses of former employers. Be sure to bring out clearly any special experience you may have had which would equip you to fill the position you seek.

3. REFERENCES.
Practically every business firm desires to know all about the previous records, antecedents, etc., of prospective employees who seek positions of responsibility. Attach to your brief photo static copies of letters from:

a. Former employers
b. Teachers under whom you studied
c. Prominent people whose judgment may be relied upon.

4. PHOTOGRAPH OF SELF.
Attach to your brief a recent, un-mounted photograph of yourself.

5. APPLY FOR A SPECIFIC POSITION.
Avoid application for a position without describing exactly what particular position you seek. Never apply for “just a position.” That indicates you lack specialized qualifications.

6. STATE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
State your qualifications for the particular position for which you apply. Give full details as to the reason you believe you are qualified for the particular position you seek. This is the most important detail of your application. It will determine, more than anything else, what consideration you receive.

7. OFFER TO WORK ON PROBATION.
In the majority of instances if you are determined to have the position for which you apply, it will be most effective if you offer to work for a week, or a month, or for a sufficient length of time to enable your prospective employer to judge your value without pay. This may appear to be a radical suggestion, but experience has proved that it seldom fails to win at least a trial. If you
are sure of your qualifications, a trial is all you need. Incidentally, such an offer indicates that you have confidence in your ability to fill the position you seek. It is most convincing. If your offer is accepted, and you make good, more than likely you will be paid for your “probation” period.

Make clear the fact that your offer is based upon:

a. Your confidence in your ability to fill the position.
b. Your confidence in your prospective employer’s decision
to employ you after trial.
c. Your Determination to have the position you seek.

8. KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER’S BUSINESS.
Before applying for a position, do sufficient research in connection with the business to familiarize yourself thoroughly with that business, and indicate in your brief the knowledge you have acquired in this field. This will be impressive, as it will indicate that you have imagination, and a real interest in the position you seek
Remember that it is not the lawyer who knows the most law, but the one who best prepares his case, who wins. If your “case” is properly prepared and presented, your victory will have been more than half won at the outset.

Do not be afraid of making your brief too long. Employers are just as much interested in purchasing the services of well-qualified applicants as you are in securing employment. In fact, the success of most successful employers is due, in the main, to their ability to select well-qualified lieutenants. They want all the information available.

Remember another thing; neatness in the preparation of your brief will indicate that you are a painstaking person. I have helped to prepare briefs for clients which were so striking and out of the ordinary that they resulted in the employment of the applicant without a personal interview.

Positive Thinking & Self Believe

Everyone wants to think positive, I have never met a person who wants to think negative but still majority of people thinks negatively. So what the reason and how to change it and go to positive side of thinking by leaving the negative thinking. I am going to share some of it based on my readings of different books and experience hope it helps somebody . I learned these things by bumping into things but I want others interested to get it straight.

I will discuss some key points to positive thinking below are few.

1. Power of Positive Thinking

The first thing in positive thinking is to believe in yourself. Well how you expect others to believe you if you don’t believe in yourself. Have confidence in your abilities and then only your mind will start to listen to you. All the people in the world who have been successful were human beings like you and if they were able to achieve something God has blessed you with everything , trust and you can achieve.
I will share one incident from a WAR, Once a general was afraid of the size of the enemy and he was frightened and the Napoleon spotted it. He went to this general and after placing his hand on his shoulder said

General never take council of your fears

I believe that’s the key phrase to remember. We think negative due to fears , we try to see all the hurdles why something cannot be done, what are the problems we cannot solve. Only if we defy the fear of failure by thinking the other side of the picture and focus on what we can achieve our mind starts to think of different ways of getting that done.

Man can alter their fate by altering the attitude of their mind

. This is really a powerful statement. What I have discovered is that we read a lot but don’t try to chew or understand what’s inside message. Someone said people can be as much happy as they can think. So we must be happy at what we have and be thankful to God. I have also found that happiness only comes for being thankful to God for what you have and what you will get. Always remember God is there, where is love and happiness is always around the corner.

2. Peace of Mind

Second important thing that can help in positive thinking is the peace of mind. You have to be transformed by your mind. Try to empty your mind and you can do this by going to a quite place and clearing all the negative emotions of hate, bad feelings and resentment for anyone that might have hurt you. Someone said

“Silence is the element where great things fashion together”

Try to repeat beautiful & positive words and this will have very strong positive affect on your mind.
Let nothing disturb you let nothing frustrate you as everything passes by. Good times pass and bad one as well goes away be patient in hard times and trust in God. He is transforming you to be something good by going through some pain. Try to stimulate creative ideas from your mind. All the substance you need is there. Use this formula.
Prayerise : Pray for what you want, Pray should be as hard as you want it.
Picturize: Picture yourself actually getting that thing.
Actualize: This is the last step once you have done the first two steps give your full effort to achieve it.

3. Achieving you goal
You will achieve your goal with the magic of believe, if you expect the best, you will have the best and if you expect the worse you will have it. Change your mind from dis-belief to belief. The rough is only in mind, if you believe of achieving something you shall be given.
Ask and you will have it.
Knock and it will be opened.
Seek and you will have it.

Challenges in Strategy Execution

As a student of execution of strategy I have always thought what is the best way to execute the strategy. Every time you are in the execution of strategy once you finish , you see the lesson learned and realize wow that was not easy but I have done it. Its going to be really easy to do it again but to our surprise we always find new challenges in the execution.

Culture
The first and foremost thing I would consider based on my practical experience is the culture of the organization and the culture of the country you are working in. Trust me its different in each country , and each organization. If you are working in the same country I would say the country culture would stay the same but if you are in a new country it’s a different story. You have to read the country culture carefully before you can even think of the strategy execution, although you are going to find some exceptional people everywhere but its hard if you are in a new country.

Second is the organization culture, you have to see how they are used to doing things. If you plan the execution of your strategy , you have already lost the plot. Read the organization culture , the government organizations are different in reacting and adopting to the strategy than private organizations. See it very carefully in which organization you are working and what are you going to face. To understand this fully , I think it needs another article.

Strategy Team and Its Support
The important part is the strategy team, who is going to work on detail the strategy with different business divisions. You must be careful in people selection don’t select the best person if the attitude is not supportive as team is more important than a person. I would prefer to take best people from business with right attitude even I have to train them for sometime.

Secondly the strategy must be detailed to the level of detail that is possible before handing it over to business divisions. Sometime I agree it can embarrass the business divisions as they would feel that you are telling them what they have to do but most people would find it easy if you are flexible to incorporate the points made by them. Try that you don’t take the credit and let them own what you have detailed it for business departments, it gives them feel well and they believe that they have worked it out.

C- Level support
You will have all the support in the world when the strategy program is started even it is approved and then it slowly fades away. In my experience there are two main reasons for it.

First is that C level executive are really very pumped up when you start it but strategy changes as you are working on it, if people don’t react to the way strategy expects them to, you have to make some changes here and there with approval but the time if it takes to get the result makes people hope go away. As a strategy champion you know its slow process but you need others to believe in this as well.

Secondly It is very hard to find a C-level executive who stays with you till the end with same enthusiasm, support and believe. Instead it fades away with time due to political pressure, likes and dislikes and other factors. They would always say that they are standing behind you but the actions does not support their words. So you need to protect this support as you need daily bathing , you need frequent nodding and consistent support from C-level.

Stakeholders
Well here you go with actual challenge , Most of the time the organizational resistance messes up your hard work. You will find people with all kind of excuses that “why something should not be changes, we have been doing this for so long and this has worked perfectly almost all the time”. This is the core sentence you will hear.
A good stakeholder analysis and a proactive plan for most important one is the key. You have to take everybody if not the key people in support of your program. However sometimes internal politics comes around but you need to be persistent.

Reporting & follow-up
The reporting and follow-up is the key to remind the key stakeholders that they are on a mission and they are important part of the execution. I found it best to form a committee of the key stakeholders and a C-level should head this called transformation committee or any other name you want to call it.
The reporting team should be nice and helping people and it should not give an impression of cop. They should be flexible to the limit that they can be but you have to show the actual progress and be the eyes and ears of the C-level.

At the end I would say that we have to understand the simple things well in order to understand and execute the strategy. Only focus on simple questions like
What we are doing ?
Why are we doing this?
What happens if we don’t do it ?
What results we will get from it?
Few questions will really help us to communicate our message and contribution that we are doing.
